Communication Barriers: Overcoming Common Obstacles to Learning

08th December from 15:45 to 17:15

Many learners with autism experience great difficulty in learning to follow directions or receptively identify objects in the environment. These basic skills serve as critical prerequisite skills to more complex skills such as expressive speech. This presentation will present a protocol for identifying possible barriers to learning.

The complex learning characteristics of children with ASD will be discussed as they relate to skill acquisition. Strategies for overcoming common obstacles to progress will be presented, with particular focus on the development of basic receptive language skills.
